The courses are developed in cooperation with leading course providers, and almost 400 courses were held in 2003. Within R&D, the most important competence-developing factor involves participating in international scientific conferences. About 170 employees were scheduled to be laid off. The reductions were the result of enhanced efficiency at Lundbecks chemical production facilities, as a combination of new production machinery and processes reduced staff requirements. Furthermore, Lundbeck found it necessary to adjust the number of employees to boost the companys competitive strength.
