2007 the year in review 2007 was a successful year for Lundbeck Padova because we achieved many of our main targets, obtaining the best value from available resources. We invested a lot of effort in improving our quality not only of our products, but also the quality of the plant. We introduced energy saving measures and we received our OHSAS 18001 certification. In 2007, results of efforts that began many years before started to materialise. Dr. Fernando Priante, Plant Manager Many of our activities and investments in 2007 went into improving the general quality of the company and its products APIs, intermediates and production processes. In Research & Development (R&D) we invested a lot of effort in expanding what we can offer to the market. We offer the whole range from research and development of new products, upscaling and development of production processes and actual production, says Dr. Fernando Priante, Plant Manager. We have been working on a new process for escitalopram in close cooperation with the plant in Lumsås, and we expect to file for approval of the new process by the end of 2008. For Lundbeck and Merz we developed a new process for memantine, the API of Ebixa. We expect to have the new process validated in 2008. Lundbeck Padova was also actively involved in developing gaboxadol. We developed one of the key intermediates, and I think we did a good job from a technical point of view. Unfortunately the project was closed down, but it has been a great opportunity to work closely together with our colleagues in Valby and Lumsås. We now have another opportunity with the compound nalmefene, which is currently in clinical Phase III. We are manufacturing the quantity that R&D needs to conduct the trials. Another focus point of 2007 has been energy savings. We allocated seven or eight per cent of our total investments to this area, and we are currently monitoring our energy consumption. I would also like to mention the OHSAS 18001 certification, the ISO 14001 and the work undertaken to obtain these targets thanks not only to the HS&E Department, but to all the people involved. I think we have a good opportunity to work together as a team to reach targets in this area. We also strive to maintain a good relationship with the local authorities and with our neighbours. The targets for 2008 are clear: Continued improvements of the kilo lab, the pilot plant and production, and continued energy savings. As regards Health and Safety, we intend to improve certain aspects of protection for employees as well as the plant. We will exchange a few glass parts with polyethylenecoated glass that offers better protection in case of accidents. We also want to confine the older part of the pilot plant in a more effective way.
