2007 the year in review We have had a very good year in terms of our process activities. With some of the initiatives we started towards the end of 2006, we have this year alone saved over a million GBP. We have also had a very good year from a health, safety and environmental perspective. We have achieved a ROSPA Gold Award, and I would like to congratulate our HSE department and our HSE representatives on the site for maintaining a very high level of safety performance and a lot of interest among the rest of the work force. Peter Trickett, Operations Director Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals Ltd. at Seal Sands is a dedicated facility for manufacturing escitalopram, an active pharmaceutical ingredient or API. In 2007 a lot of effort has gone into one of our projects, which we initiated towards the end of 2006. For me the proces optimisation project PATCY has been one of the most satisfying activities of 2007. Using the same amount of raw materials and intermediates, we obtained the equivalent of a million GBPs worth of extra product from the process. Since the PATCY project started, it has saved the company 1.65 million GBP, and it has improved our yield by nine per cent. This excellent performance substantially improves our bottom line results. From a health, safety and environment point of view 2007 was also a good year. On the site we continue to give top priority to HSE, and I think our performance has been excellent. This year once again we have had no breaches of our environmental permissions and we have been audited by Bureau Veritas for the ISO14001 and OHSAS18001. The audit, which took place in the spring, was most successful. At the start of the year we also received our new IPPC, which is the environmental approval for the site. We have had one minor lost time accident this year. It was a little frustrating, because we had a four-year record of no lost time accidents. We aimed to go for a fifth consecutive year but fell short at the last hurdle. It was such a minor event, involving an employee who twisted awkwardly and suffered a back strain when lifting an empty plastic drum, but it still counts as a lost time accident. And it is the only goal for 2007 we have not achieved. One of the many goals that were achieved is energy savings. We have realised some of the energy saving improvements that we made last year, and we have saved approximately seven per cent in our electricity and gas consumption this year. Next year we will try to reduce our energy consumption and our waste generation from the process by a further ten per cent each. We have thus set ourselves some very ambitious targets for 2008.
